MTM’s Nevada Team Empowers Seniors During Older Americans Month

In celebration of Older Americans Month, MTM’s Nevada team joined forces with the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County and the Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada (N4) during their special community event. The event aimed to provide older adults in Washoe County with valuable information and resources about transportation options available to help them access their community. As a proud partner of the event, MTM worked alongside the Nevada Division of Health Care Financing and Policy (DHCFP) to educate Medicaid recipients about the Nevada non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) program. The event had an impressive turnout of more than 150 senior citizens, many of whom were unaware of the NEMT program’s existence. Many seniors face challenges in accessing transportation services, making it difficult for them to attend crucial medical appointments and access other essential services. MTM, alongside DHCFP, took the initiative to bridge this information gap.

Sandra Stanko, MTM’s Program Director, stated, “We were thrilled to be a part of this community event and had the opportunity to empower older adults with valuable information about the NEMT program. Our aim is to ensure that no senior in Washoe County misses essential medical appointments due to transportation barriers.”

MTM and DHCFP were represented by a team of passionate individuals who were committed to making a positive impact on the lives of the elderly in the community. Representatives from MTM and DHCFP included:

  • Sandra Stanko, MTM Program Director
  • Doreen Orlando, MTM Contact Center Manager
  • Kelly Carranza, DHCFP Transportation Manager
  • Jackie Obregon, DHCFP Policy Manager

MTM’s participation in this community event aligned with our commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals. By focusing on social sustainability and education, MTM helped to enable better access to medical appointments and essential services for older adults.
