MTM Welcomes Director of Functional Assessments and Travel Training Nathan Atherstone

MTM is dedicated to providing high quality management of functional assessment and travel training services, and relies on expert leaders to guide our nationwide On the Move programs. We’re excited to announce that our On the Move team has found a new leader for our operations in the western portion of the country with the hiring of Nathan Atherstone as Director of Functional Assessments and Travel Training (West). In this role, Nathan will oversee our functional assessment and travel training operations in the west, helping our staff ensure paratransit services are utilized appropriately and teach individuals how to ride fixed route buses and trains independently.

Nathan will ensure our On the Move operations with transit agencies in his region help to achieve our clients’ goals of improving community access, increasing fixed route utilization, and containing paratransit costs. He brings to MTM more than 17 years of experience in transportation management and planning. Most recently, he spent four years at the Transportation Manager for the city of Fairfield, California, where he oversaw operation of the Fairfield and Suisun Transit (FAST) and SolanoExpress transit systems. Nathan is a member of the California Transit Association and the California Association for Coordinated Transportation, and earned his Master’s Degree in Transportation Management from San Jose State University’s Mineta Transportation Institute.

“With our functional assessment and travel training operations expanding throughout the western region of the country, Nathan is the leader we need to direct our On the Move operations,” said MTM’s Senior Director of Functional Assessments and Travel Training Sean Powers. “His vast experience working directly with public transit systems, coupled with his in-depth understanding of paratransit operations and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), will ensure MTM continues removing community barriers for our clients and their passengers.”

Welcome to the On the Move team, Nathan!
