MTM Announces Investment in NEMT Technology Platform Kaizen Health

MTM, one of the nation’s leading non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) brokers, has made an investment in Kaizen Health, Inc., a cutting edge healthcare logistics and NEMT technology platform. Chicago-based Kaizen Health, led by founder and CEO Mindi Knebel, largely works with healthcare systems to streamline the scheduling of medical transportation for hospital discharges; recurring appointments for dialysis, cancer treatment, physical therapy, and diagnostics/imaging; and clinical trials. Kaizen Health also works in in-home healthcare and senior living. By utilizing an innovative, technology-driven process, Kaizen Health relieves the administrative burden from healthcare providers and patients in arranging NEMT—allowing both parties to focus on the healing and treatment plan.

Since its founding, Kaizen Health has built a transportation network in Chicago, including a national partnership with Lyft. With this investment and partnership, Kaizen Health now has access to MTM’s nationwide network of more than 1,250 credentialed transportation providers. Additionally, the organization will leverage MTM’s 20-plus years of experience in the NEMT industry and the expertise of President and CEO Alaina Maciá, who will sit on Kaizen Health’s Board of Directors.

“With our investment, MTM is uniting two key pieces of the NEMT puzzle for hospital delivery systems: an established broker with a built-out network that accommodates ambulatory, non-ambulatory, and passengers needing attendants, and a state-of-the-art technology platform,” Maciá said. “Traditionally, MTM has contracted with managed care organizations and state Medicaid providers for NEMT service—our partnership with Kaizen Health will open up new markets to MTM that Kaizen Health has recently entered. MTM’s access to Kaizen Health’s cutting edge technology will allow MTM the opportunity to improve satisfaction, reduce wait times, increase visibility into trip status, and lower cost per trip.”

“MTM and Kaizen share common goals: improving access to healthcare and the community at large,” Knebel added. “We envision our partnership becoming the healthcare logistics management model of tomorrow, encompassing everything from transportation to in-home healthcare, telehealth services, pharma delivery, and more.”

The Kaizen Health platform is Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)-compliant, ensuring full protection of patient privacy and security. Kaizen Health’s current clients include hospital and healthcare systems like Sinai Health Systems, UI Health, Northwestern, Lurie’s Children’s Hospital, John Muir Health Access Community Health Network, and the University of Chicago Medical Center, as well as Medicaid and Medicare health plans, managed care organizations, and ACOs.
