How MTM Health Empowers Individuals of All Abilities

Disability is a natural part of human diversity. People with disabilities deserve inclusion, respect, and the opportunity to thrive. This month, we’re celebrating the achievements, resilience, and contributions of the disability community while raising awareness about the barriers that still exist in healthcare access, transportation, and daily living.

At MTM Health, we’re proud to support individuals with a wide range of abilities every day. Through our comprehensive services, we help remove barriers so Medicaid and Medicare members can access the care and resources they need with dignity, independence, and compassion.

How MTM Health Supports People of All Abilities

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT): Reliable Rides for Every Mobility Need

Transportation is often one of the biggest obstacles to healthcare. Every year, MTM Health coordinates 35 million+ safe, accessible NEMT rides for members who are ambulatory, use wheelchairs, or require specialized support, including stretcher transportation for those who must remain lying down.

We partner with a diverse network of transportation providers, including wheelchair-accessible vehicles and healthcare-credentialed drivers trained in ADA compliance, sensitivity, and medical needs. Our drivers undergo rigorous background checks, drug testing, and ongoing training to ensure every ride is safe and respectful.

Sarah, a member in Missouri with multiple sclerosis who uses a wheelchair, needed consistent transportation to physical therapy.

“MTM Health schedules a wheelchair-accessible ride for me every week,” she said. “The driver is always patient, helpful with my equipment, and on time. Without these rides, I wouldn’t be able to keep up with my therapy and stay as independent as possible.”

Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Therapies: Building Strength, Confidence, and Connection

Our HCBS therapies, including equine, pet, art, music, and aquatic therapy, help members with physical, intellectual, developmental, or behavioral disabilities improve function, reduce isolation, and enhance quality of life. These therapies support community integration and personal growth in ways traditional care sometimes cannot.

In Florida, a young adult with autism who struggled with social interaction and mobility participated in equine therapy. After several sessions, his therapist noted: “He went from walking only 20 feet with difficulty to confidently walking 200 feet from the car to the barn.”

Another member with trauma history shared after pet therapy: “This isn’t therapy — this is fun!” while smiling and interacting with dogs for the first time in years.

Mobile Integrated Health (MIH): Bringing Care Directly to Members

For members whose disabilities or health conditions make it difficult or impossible to leave home, our MIH programs deliver care where they are. This includes in-home clinical services by paramedics and EMTs, health education, medication management, and coordination of social supports. MIH reduces unnecessary 911 calls and hospital readmissions while promoting independence and preventive care.

An elderly member in a rural area with limited mobility and multiple chronic conditions was frequently missing appointments and struggling with medication adherence. Through MIH, a community paramedic visited his home regularly for check-ups, education, and support. His daughter shared: “Now my dad can stay in his own home safely, and we’re not rushing to the ER as often. It’s given us peace of mind and improved his daily life.”

Our Commitment to Dignity and Excellence

At MTM Health, disability empowerment isn’t just a policy; it’s part of our culture. Our staff and all of our network transportation and therapy providers complete ongoing empathy, sensitivity, and disability awareness training. We focus on clear communication, respect for individual preferences, and understanding the lived experiences of people with disabilities.

This commitment ensures every interaction, whether scheduling a ride, coordinating therapy, or delivering in-home care, is handled with professionalism and compassion.

Moving Forward Together

MTM Health is proud to help our clients build a more accessible world by removing transportation barriers, supporting therapeutic growth, and bringing care directly to those who need it most.

By combining nationwide scale, innovative technology like MTM Link, and a deeply human-centered approach, we’re not just helping members with disabilities access care—we’re helping them live fuller, healthier, and more independent lives.
