Behind the Scenes: A Heartwarming Visit to a PPEC Facility
Transportation is more than just getting from Point A to Point B. In some cases, it’s about connecting children with complex medical needs to the care, therapies, and joy they deserve every single day.
Recently, our Florida team had the opportunity to visit a local Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) facility. These specialized centers provide essential daily medical care; physical, occupational, and speech therapies; and a wide variety of enriching activities for children with complex medical conditions. In Florida alone, MTM Health proudly provides safe transportation to over 100 PPEC facilities, ensuring these children can access the specialized support they need.
During the visit, the team was given a tour by dedicated staff member Alexa. They had the chance to meet some of the incredible children at the facility, including a 9-week-old baby and a lively almost 6-year-old girl wearing a Disney Princess shirt who had more energy than all the adults combined!
The facility was peaceful and quiet during the visit, right after lunch. Most of the children were either resting or playing calmly, completely absorbed in their toys. But the team learned that the atmosphere would soon transform. Within the hour, the center would be filled with energy as children began arriving from school.
For some kids, PPECs serve as vital before- and after-school care where they can receive their medications and therapies. Others spend their entire day at the facility, while some attend for shorter periods or use it as a temporary respite for families and grandparents. Many children attend for years until they age out of the program.
Seeing the compassionate care provided by the PPEC staff firsthand was truly inspiring. The dedication of these professionals, combined with the resilience and bright spirits of the children, left a lasting impression on our team. We’re incredibly proud of the role MTM Health plays in this ecosystem by safely and reliably transporting these extraordinary children to and from their PPEC facilities so they can have fulfilling days filled with care, therapy, fun, and enrichment.
