Network Management

“I have worked with other companies and MTM ranks first in professionalism, prompt reimbursement, and a sincere effort to provide vendor education.”
“MTM demonstrates their commitment to quality through understanding the needs of their customers, soliciting feedback and monitoring the performance of their vendors by annual on-site visits, quarterly performance report cards and unscheduled inspections of the vehicles and driver observation to determine procedure compliance.”

Indiana Vendor

“MTM keeps its vendors informed through regular newsletters, bulletins and an active advisory board to ensure that any requirements or changes are communicated. This is beneficial as a small business owner in ensuring that our company is adhering to legislation.”

President, First Transportation, Inc.

“Our transportation services are very limited and often I must find services on an immediate basis for our dialysis patients.  MTM has been very responsive in these kinds of situations”

Social Worker, Missouri Dialysis Center

The Network Management Department, as its name implies, manages all aspects of the transportation network. This includes recruitment, credentialing, contracting, maintaining diverse coverage, and monitoring all associated documentation to form a strong network on behalf of our clients. We staff the Network Management Department with individuals who have strong interpersonal skills and an eye for detail. MTM builds quality transportation networks to deliver comprehensive and cost-effective coverage. We do not own vehicles; instead, when MTM enters a service area, we contract with local transportation providers. This allows MTM to apply quality and performance standards objectively across the network. We subcontract with all forms of ground transportation modes to meet our client’s needs in a specific region. These modes include:

Sedans/med cars

Stretcher vans

Multi-passenger vehicles

Not-for-profit and for-profit companies

Paralift vehicles

Public transit systems

Non-emergency ambulances

Personal vehicle/Gas reimbursement

Interface with the Community

MTM has always been a company that works from the ground up, developing relationships with stakeholders and local resources to design a program that makes sense for the client and the service area. It would not be prudent to enter a service area and disrupt all the good things currently working for the transportation program. Instead, MTM assesses the current program and adopts those processes and partnerships that are already working efficiently to make the NET/NEMT program successful. We also assess areas in which new processes and partnerships may foster program enhancements and continued success.

We work conscientiously to establish positive working relationships with key stakeholders, this is especially critical early in the implementation phase of a new contract. We seek the input of the transportation provider and medical community on what is working, as well as any areas of concern. We then evaluate what we have learned with our client’s input, to design the best program to meet the identified goals. Our relationships with key stakeholders serve as an example of how a NET/NEMT program should operate and the outcomes that can be achieved when good processes, technology, and people come together to solve a problem or enhance an existing system.

Credential and Contract qualified transportation providers

MTM qualifies, credentials, and contracts with local transportation providers. Once contracted, the transportation provider is responsible for routing and completing their trip assignments, submitting accurate claims data, and maintaining all required driver and vehicle documentation. This leaves MTM to handle the call intake process, including eligibility and distribution of trips to the respective providers, and all other administrative functions.

MTM’s extensive transportation networks include all levels of service—from ambulatory to non-emergency ambulance—to meet the needs of the wide range of populations we serve. Maintaining diverse transportation networks allows us to assign the most appropriate and cost-effective mode of transportation on behalf of our clients.

Safe Networks

We perform vehicle inspections, transportation provider credentialing, insurance oversight, and conduct on-site visits to ensure we provide passengers with the best transportation available. We verify documentation of completed driver criminal background checks (where applicable) and confirm that drivers have received extensive training. We remain committed to quality and safety, therefore, we provide oversight of the entire program through reviews, audits, credentialing and annual re-credentialing.

MTM trends information to determine adequate coverage and level of service to meet the needs of our passengers. We have established specific transportation provider guidelines so our clients can be confident of high quality service. Transportation providers receive ongoing transportation education and reinforcement of the guidelines through:
  • Verbal communication with various MTM staff
  • Educational letters
  • Quarterly newsletters
  • Annual, regional transportation provider meetings

Qualified Drivers

The credentialing process conducted by MTM ensures we contract with the highest quality, most reliable transportation providers available. However, we do not stop there; we provide continual monitoring to ensure the transportation service we deliver retains a high standard of quality.
Our drivers undergo criminal, elderly and child abuse/neglect background checks. Drivers must also receive specific training before we allow them to transport an MTM passenger. Our drivers must be courteous, arrive on time for pick up, and get passengers to their appointments on time—all in a safe and efficient manner. MTM passengers receive transportation to their appointments by a competent, safety-conscious driver with the appropriate training to meet specific criteria. We continually monitor the service and quickly work to resolve any identified issues.

Cost Consciousness

Our Network Management department acts as a gatekeeper on high cost trips and works to find the most cost-efficient provider capable of meeting the unique needs of the trip. Having a department accountable for trip costs sets us apart from our competition; our clients want a company who balances quality service with cost efficiency. When we identify a high-cost trip, MTM explores any opportunity to reduce the trip cost if possible. Our goal is to arrange the most appropriate, lowest-cost transportation mode that meets the physical and medical needs of the passenger.

MTM goes beyond internal practices to keep transportation costs low. We work with our transportation providers to identify areas of cost savings for the transportation provider network. For instance, insurance costs recently skyrocketed due to market conditions. MTM’s Network Management department began referring transportation providers to insurance brokers that value the stringent quality standards held by MTM transportation providers.  These brokers were then able to offer our transportation providers lower insurance rates than through traditional insurance brokers.
